Grab a cup of coffee and let’s get started!
The Balancing Act:
We are all aware that technology has become an integral part of our lives, just as our children have. This means that screens can provide incredible learning opportunities, but there must be a balance. Setting those boundaries and developing good screen use habits is critical. To teach children a healthy relationship with technology means equipping them with valuable skills while they still get to enjoy some of life’s goodies offline.
- Screen Time Schedule: Establishing a screen-time routine can be extremely beneficial. Designating time slots for the screen ensures that other tasks are completed. Make sure their voices are heard when making decisions so that they can take ownership and responsibility.
- Engage in Interactive Screen Time: Not all screen time is created equal, so ensure that your child is interacting with and/or learning from content. You could recommend age-appropriate apps, educational games, or learning sites for these platforms. We can improve screen time by prioritizing quality over flat present-time measures of volume within the learning experience.
- Offline Games: Now, let’s explore the exciting world of offline activities! Offline games not only provide a welcome break from screens, but also foster creativity, critical thinking, and social skills. The following ideas will help you get started:
✅ Arts and crafts: Help your child discover their inner painter, drawing artist, or craft maker. Engage in hands-on activities that not only stimulate the imagination but also have therapeutic benefits. ✅ Outdoor Adventures: Enjoy the great outdoors! Encourage your child to explore, hike, or participate in outdoor sports. This will keep them active and moving while they learn about the environment. ✅ Reading Time: Establish reading time with the children and instil in them a love of reading. Simultaneously, the activity will help to cover a variety of genres, which can then be discussed after reading. The activity not only improves their language skills but also helps to strengthen the bond between the child and his or her parent.✅Family Game Nights: Schedule an evening dedicated to engaging the entire family. It could revolve around board games or puzzles, with a competitive spirit, a desire to solve problems, and social interaction.
